How can I have a happy marriage and transform my spouse into a soul mate? (Part II – Chores Management)

Do you feel that you are doing everything in your power to make your spouse happy and your marriage work, but there is no reciprocation?  After a couple of years, your enthusiasm has waned and you have stopped trying? Are you wondering where all your romantic dreams have vanished? Don’t worry – what if I told you that there is a formula to success — and if you both work together you can be happy in 30-60 days?

The formula –

  • There are four pillars to a happy marriage.
  • Emotional happiness
  • Effective management of chores and social engagements
  • Financial agreement
  • Shared Experiences and being mindful
  • Effective management of chores and social engagements:
Make a list of chores for the household including things you do for the kids and agree on ownership. If the other person refuses to honor their commitment, try to hire help. Communicate clearly that the other person is unable to honor their part of the bargain and you are forced to hire help. Continuous nagging, complaining or feeling hurt that the spouse is not contributing just leads to unhappy marriages. Instead spend your energies to find ways to get external help – paid or unpaid (the good old barter system, where you do some things for friends and they reciprocate works just as well). Similarly, understand how often you want to meet people and entertain. Based on your mutual needs, agree on frequency and the chores associated with that.
