There are many different types of electrical wire. Each different kind of electrical wire is perfect for an alternative job. The wires even have different varieties of insulation and protection; itrrrs this that makes each one suitable for another application. There exists THHN and TFFN wires which can be virtually identical. You can also find the NM-B and Romex wires and in many cases the MC Conduit cable. These wires are great for electrical work indoors and a few of them may also be used outside, plus conduit.
TFFN and THHN
Those two wire names are abbreviations. TFFN is short for thermoplastic insulation, flexible, fixture, and nylon coating. Even though the THHN stands for thermoplastic insulation, heat resistant, high heat resistant, and nylon coating. Then include that a number of the THHN wires come during a water, gas and oil prices resistant form, and you also get THWN wire. They are all single conductor copper wires which can be used both indoors, outdoors plus conduit.
NM-B and Romex
Romex may be the Southwire label of an NM-B cable. Now the NM stands for non-metallic. Which means that rather than wire being incased in the metal jacket. The NM-B cable carries a PVC jacket across the multiple conductors it holds. The following form of electrical wire are only able to supply indoors. The wire doesn’t need enough protection onto it to use outside. The most frequent use with this sort of wire is insulated homes and buildings, running power from electrical boxes to outlets, lights and appliances.
MC Conduit Cable
These kinds of electrical cable is incredibly distinctive from the NM-B cable. That is because the MC Conduit cable is metal clad. This sort of electrical cable comes with a aluminum interlocked armor jacket as opposed to the typical PVC. The aluminum jacket around the wires conductors is designed to act as a conduit so there defintely won’t be the need for one when it’s being installed. This design can be meant to increase set up . process, in turn saving electricians and contractors both time and money.
Every one of these electrical wires can be used indoors as building wire. Most can also be used outdoors in conduit as well. Now even though most of these wires are somewhat similar, they are still different, which means the variation in applications. Make sure to look at all of your options to find the appropriate wire for your next job or project!
